    Our Story

    Bartlebee Bartlebee The Cat.

‘Why a cat? What do cats have to do with skincare?'

I’ve struggled with depression since I was fourteen, though I didn’t know it at the time. At thirty-one, I descended further into post-partum depression, at which point I finally sought help. Prior to being diagnosed, I thought the darkness was a part of my personality. I had coped in other ways - reading, drawing, painting, writing - and these methods I continue to find therapeutic (In addition to medication).

I imagined a world perceived by eyes that did not share my sadness and conjured the cat and the hummingbird, exploring the wonders of the world in unburdened gaiety. The cat is inspired by my own feline, who my husband adopted five years ago.

Melancholy is an inescapable part of life. It's also a thread in the tapestry of experiences that mark our human kinship, perhaps the one felt most keenly. I believe it propels our creativity and need for beauty.

I hope that Songerie can be a part of your daily skincare routine and inspire you to take a moment for yourself to discover and create things that you love as well. And if you are unhappy, may it remind you that you are not alone.
